AMI SEMICONDUCTOR adds to mixed-signal capabilities with purchase of MICROSEMI Micro Power Products Division

Pocatello, Idaho - October 1, 2002 - AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) today announced its acquisition of the Micro Power Products Division of Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC). The purchase of this medical mixed-signal ASIC group is the second acquisition to be completed by AMIS this year, and follows the recently completed integration of the mixed-signal business activities of Alcatel Microelectronics by AMIS. This most recent acquisition highlights AMI Semiconductor’s continued commitment to the high growth, high volume medical electronics industry.

“AMI Semiconductor is very excited about this acquisition,” said Christine King, president and CEO of AMI Semiconductor. “In addition to new medical customers and developed products, we will acquire a great deal of know-how in developing low voltage/low power medical devices. This addition of expertise is consistent with our focus at AMIS to continue to provide world class mixed-signal solutions to our customers.”

Located in Carlsbad, California, the 15-person design team that will be joining AMIS focuses on low voltage amplifier technology for medical applications, low power delta-sigma converter design, and are experts in ASIC solutions for the medical electronics device market. They bring to AMIS existing customer relationships with manufacturers of hearing aids, implantable devices and portable glucose monitors.

Medical Device Customers Around the World

AMIS has partnered with medical device manufacturers for many years. Its mixed-signal and sensor solutions have been designed into dozens of medical monitoring, medical telemetry, remote patient monitoring, and diagnostics/alarm applications. AMIS counts among its customers a number of global medical device leaders including GE Medical, Abbott Labs, Medtronic, Guidant and Siemens.

“We look forward to exploring the new opportunities created by joining such a global semiconductor leader as AMIS,” said Jonas Weiland, Manager of IC marketing and product development. “Our newfound access to AMI Semiconductor’s world-class mixed-signal technology combined with its global sales force and existing relationships with medical device manufacturers worldwide opens up many new exciting possibilities.”
